The Testimony of Three – Ether 5:4

4 And in the mouth of three witnesses shall these things be established; and the testimony of three, and this work, in the which shall be shown forth the power of God and also his word, of which the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost bear record–and all this shall stand as a testimony against the world at the last day.

In a court of law, witnesses are called to testify of their experiences so that impartial jurors can decide what is true. When testimonies contradict one another, the jurors must decide which is more credible. When multiple witnesses give independent but complementary testimonies, their credibility increases.
No wonder we hold testimony meetings at church. Think of the value of those meetings for those who do not yet believe or whose faith may be faltering. They sit in the congregation as impartial jurors, hearing testimonies borne by multiple witnesses who have experienced the power of God personally. As they listen to these testimonies, they have the opportunity to open their hearts to the Spirit of the Lord and to receive their own personal knowledge that these things are true, thus becoming witnesses themselves.
This Sunday, as I participate in testimony meeting, I will remember the positive influence that each of our testimonies can have, particularly for those who need to be strengthened spiritually. I will be grateful for the opportunity to hear multiple witnesses testify of the truth of the gospel and of its power in their lives.
