The Prophets Fled unto Com for Protection – Ether 11:2-3

2 And it came to pass that the prophets were rejected by the people, and they fled unto Com for protection, for the people sought to destroy them.
3 And they prophesied unto Com many things; and he was blessed in all the remainder of his days.
(Ether 11:2-3)
Com had the ability as king to provide protection to a group of prophets who were being persecuted. However, his influence was limited: he apparently couldn’t convince his people to accept the prophets as he did. So he did what he could, and he was blessed for it.
As I think about our modern-day prophets, I see parallels between Com’s actions and our own. We may not always be able to convince other people to believe the words of the prophets or even to respect them, but we can speak in their defense and follow their teachings. By doing so, we can be blessed regardless of the decisions of other people.
Today, I will recommit to sustain the Lord’s living prophets by studying and applying the principles they teach, and by defending those principles.
