If There Be No Faith – Ether 12:12

12 For if there be no faith among the children of men God can do no miracle among them; wherefore, he showed not himself until after their faith.

How can it be true that an all-powerful God can do no miracle until after we exercise faith? I think Moroni is describing not a limitation of God’s power but rather a ground rule of our mortal experience. Of course our Heavenly Father has the ability to perform miracles on our behalf, but we will not experience growth if He is constantly providing for us, with no effort on our part.
And so, He has designed this life in a way that facilitates that growth. He stands ready to bless us with miracles: to remove obstacles from our paths, to strengthen us so that we can remove the obstacles, or to help us bear our burdens gracefully and with dignity. But He will not impose those miracles upon us, because doing so would nullify the benefit of this mortal experience for us.
Today, I will remember that God’s blessings in my life and in the lives of the people I love begins with my faith. I will recognize that miracles are available to me and to them, but that I must take the first step to receive them.
