A More Excellent Hope – Ether 12:32

32 And I also remember that thou hast said that thou hast prepared a house for man, yea, even among the mansions of thy Father, in which man might have a more excellent hope; wherefore man must hope, or he cannot receive an inheritance in the place which thou hast prepared.

There is a reciprocal relationship between hope and salvation in this verse.
  1. The promise of eternal life with God fills us with hope. In fact, Moroni tells us that an expectation of eternal life is “a more excellent hope.” We may have many hopes, and some of those may give us joy. But a hope for salvation, with a strong basis for believing that it is within our reach, definitely qualifies as “more excellent” than our other hopes.
  2. Hope is a requirement for eternal life. The gospel path begins with faith in Jesus Christ, and that faith is always accompanied by hope for salvation. Therefore, in order to inherit eternal life, you must first hope for eternal life and demonstrate your trust in the One who is capable of conferring that gift.
I’m grateful for the gift of eternal life I can receive through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I will choose to embrace that hope, knowing that I must do so in order to receive the promised blessing.
