All This Shall Stand as a Testimony – Ether 5:4

4 And in the mouth of three witnesses shall these things be established; and the testimony of three, and this work, in the which shall be shown forth the power of God and also his word, of which the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost bear record–and all this shall stand as a testimony against the world at the last day.
(Ether 5:4)

In this verse, Moroni identifies three types of evidence which can contribute to our testimony of the gospel:

  1. Witnesses – The words of people who have learned spiritual truths by firsthand experience can be convincing to us and can at least motivate us to look for further evidence of those truths.
  2. “This Work” – The Savior said, “Ye shall know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16). When we see the blessings the gospel brings into our lives and the lives of other people, that can strengthen our faith and our conviction that it is true.
  3. The Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost – We can each receive a testimony of the gospel by direct revelation from heaven. When the Holy Ghost testifies to us that the gospel is true, that is the most convincing evidence of all.

Today, I will be grateful for all three forms of evidence listed in this verse: the witnesses who have written and spoken about their experiences, the blessings I and others have experienced by living the gospel, and most importantly, the witness I have received directly from the Holy Ghost that this work is true.
